Ms Dorcas Phirie

Dorcas Phirie is the Chief Education Officer in the Department of Tertiary Education, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology. This is Policy oriented function and facilitates the Ministry leadership in providing oversight for the Parastatals that fall under the Ministry. She serves in various Boards representing the Ministry, Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Country Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund.

Mrs Phirie, a Master’s Degree holder from Leeds University in the UK has been in the education sector since 1985. Her previous leadership roles have included being Head of Department and Deputy Principal Molepolole College of Education, Coordinator of In-Service Division and Teacher Capacity Building Programme on HIV and AIDS amongst others within the Ministry of Education.

She has participated in international conferences and seminars such as the International Conference on the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language, Learning Achievement Programme in Scotland, presented paper on the Teacher Capacity Building programme on HIV and AIDS during the Global South to South Development Cooperation in New York and UNESCO Best Practice Awards in Malaysia.

Mrs Phirie contributed articles to numerous publications both locally and internationally on World AIDS Day, learner material development for Paerson Publishers and UNESCO Magazine amongst others.

Dorcas Phirie is currently the board member of a non - profit making organization, Stepping Stones International, which focuses on youth development; offering life skills, psychosocial support, and community mobilization and leadership skills development.
